Cleaning the trackball housing and chassis
Some versions of SpeechMikes have a built-in high-precision stainless steel trackball which is used like a PC mouse. Self-lubricated and abrasive resistant Teflon bearings guarantee smooth operation over the entire lifetime. In combination with a laser scanner and self-cleaning features, the trackball is precise and durable.
To clean the trackball it can be taken out of the device. Should this ever be
required, please follow the steps below on how to open the trackball-housing, clean, and then reassemble the housing.
- Before you start, please disconnect the SpeechMike from the computer.
- Remove the plastic ring with tweezers. Turn it counter clockwise.
- Remove the holding ring.
- Now you can remove the trackball to clean with a soft microfiber cloth.
- Remove the Teflon ring and clean it, if necessary, with a soft microfiber cloth.
- Clean inner section with cotton buds or an air duster.
- After cleaning or disinfection re-assemble the parts in reverse order and close it by turning the plastic ring clockwise.
Note:
Please ensure the device that it is completely disconnected from the PC before cleaning.
During the cleaning, please make sure that no liquid penetrates into the device.
The device itself is completely safe, as it uses the 5V supply from the USB port, however any liquid which might penetrate the device could lead to malfunction as long as the liquid has not evaporated.
