Tips for Improving Hygiene with your Philips Dictation Products

From radiation to infectious diseases, medical employees are exposed to higher health risks than your regular office worker. These risks can come from multiple sources, including elevated exposure to sick patients and lack of proper protective gear. With many factors out of the individuals’ control, hospitals emphasize the importance of preventing infections through hygiene measures for hands and surfaces.

Hygienic working is now more important than ever

The effective sterilization of possibly contaminated tools and surfaces is at least equally as important as regular washing and sanitizing of employees’ hands. The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies the use of “surfaces that can be easily decontaminated” as an important factor when determining the level of healthcare safety.1 As such, healthcare workers should be especially careful when using tools and devices around their workplace, ensuring they can be quickly sterilized to lessen the spread of germs and decrease risk of infection.

Protection by Philips

Philips SpeechMike dictation microphones come with a special hygienic housing, ideally suitable for the medical environment. The surface physically hinders the colonization of germs and thus improves the efficiency of the usual measures for disinfecting the device. Here are three ways Philips SpeechMikes help protect medical staff every day:

The hygienic plastic housing of the Philips SpeechMike has been tested according to the high-quality standards  of ISO 846:2019 (effect of microorganisms on plastics). The test results showed that the plastic material of the SpeechMike Premium does not provide a breeding ground for germs and fungi.

The anti-static agents on the housing of the SpeechMike dictation microphone parts create a shield-like defense against the transmission of airborne germs and fungi. Studies have proven anti-static treatment of materials to be effective in reducing airborne contamination.2

The entire Philips SpeechMike can be cleaned and disinfected with conventional cleaning agents which will not alter its unique properties. We recommend special cleaning cloths, for example Bacillol 30  wipes. Alternatively, the following cleaning agents (or similar) can also be used:

  • Sterillium wipes
  • Bacillol wipes / paper tissues
  • Bode X wipes

Taking the proper precautions to make sure hands and surfaces stay clean has always been a priority in the medical field. However, proper hygiene has become more important than ever in recent months. Not only do hands need to be regularly sanitized, but surfaces and devices that are used and touched daily need to be thoroughly cleaned. The hygienic housing of the Philips SpeechMike dictation microphones can help to slow the spread of germs, allowing healthcare workers to focus on what’s most important – their patients.
