ILTACON 2025: AI, dictation and the future of legal work
Our team just returned from ILTACON 2025, the International Legal Technology Associationโs annual conference 2025, held in National Harbor, MD this year. From learning about AIโs role in legal industry to a buzzing exhibit hall full of advanced technology solutions, the event was a great opportunity for our team to connect with legal professionals, industry experts, partners and prospects face-to-face. We sat down with our sales team Ali, Kendahl, Caroline to get their insights into the trends and conversations from this conference.
What were the key learnings from this event?
AI is dominating the conversation. Ali noted the strong and growing interest in how AI will shape the future of legal work, with lawyers now far more open to adopting it than ever before and actively seeking ways to integrate it into daily workflows.
Kendahl, however, observed an oversaturation of AI messaging โ raising the question of what these tools truly deliver and what are the benefits of these AI features. Caroline pointed out that despite the AI buzz, many visitors were still most interested in dictation and speech solutions, focusing on how to simplify processes and tools โ a space where our platform Philips SpeechLive continues to excel.
Any product insights specifically?
Ali stated that more lawyers are moving away from handheld devices and embracing their phones as powerful tools for dictation as supported by Philips SpeechLive. Kendahl noted the overwhelmingly positive feedback on our Multi-Speaker and Smart Transcript features in Philips SpeechLive, even quoting a competitor who said, โEvery single firm needs Multi-Speaker Transcripts!โ โ a testament to our position at the top of the market in tech innovation. Caroline emphasized that Philips remains a trusted name in the dictation and speech-to-text space, with existing customers expressing enthusiasm for the latest features. Many people we spoke to are looking to save IT resources through easier management and less infrastructure.
In terms of partnership, Ali states, many partners are entering the space with generative AI offerings based on templates for common legal documents. Speechlive works as a great integration option for faster generation that will remain key in coming out ahead.ย
What was your biggest takeaway from the event?
The biggest takeaway from ILTACON 2025 was the overwhelming focus on AI, particularly the rise of generative AI as a tool for creating faster, more efficient workflows. Ali said that while generative AI is gaining traction for its speed and practicality, agentic AI is still viewed as more complex and slower to implement. Kendahl summed it up: AI is everything right now โ if a solution doesnโt have it, itโs a much harder sell.
How was your overall experience at the show?
The team described ILTACON 2025 as a positive and high-energy experience, even if the attendance and booth traffic were lower than in previous years. Our team noted that while the turnout was less than expected, the quality of conversations remained high. Kendahl echoed the positive sentiment, highlighting the strong energy at the show despite slower periods, particularly during peak hours later in the day. Caroline added that they still had good conversations and could gather strong and promising leads.
Wrapping up ILTACON2025: AI has taken a lot of space in the legal tech conversations, but the hunger for reliable, efficient dictation tools is still strong. Philips SpeechLive continues to stand out โ not just because of AI-powered features like Multi-Speaker Transcription, but because it remains a user-friendly solution for legal professionals who want to work smarter, not harder.
